Lately, violence has been overshadowing the news as injury, mayhem, and death spreads from town to town, city to city, state to state, and nation to nation. Sometimes we can see it coming, and sometimes it takes us completely by surprise. We can be at a concert, the mall, a cruise ship, a sports game, or any event that turns out to have many people in attendance. The number of people draws opportunities for individuals with an agenda to take multiple lives, and those who have a sickness is sometimes overlooked by doctors and family members. What are we to do? How do we keep ourselves safe when we gather with family and friends to enjoy a beautiful day in the sun? Also, how do we enjoy ourselves when we partake in a musical event under a gorgeous starry night? One of the most important aspects of life is recognizing when we are sick, or when our friends or family members are sick. This sickness may come in the form of a physical ailment or a mental disruption where voices are heard which are invisible to friends and family until that abrupt opportunity erupts. That abrupt opportunity turns out to be instructions. The voices can tell us to plan and connive, but what exactly does that mean? Even more, some individuals follow the instructions of these voices by making pre-meditating tactics. How do we recognize this? Sometimes we don’t. Yes, sometimes even the best psychological professionals cannot hear these voices that some people hear, but let’s look at some differences between a physical ailment and a mental disruption. A cough is a symptom of something caught in your throat, or you have some type of sickness. A fever is an indication that the body is having an internal battle with a microscopic intruder as the internal defense systems kicks in. These are the types of ailments that are seen. On the other hand, there are ailments that present themselves as voices. These voices speak in the day, the night, and when you’re sleeping. The voices speak with a tone that is sometimes soothing, terrifying and intimidating. Nonetheless, the voices are telling you to do something that you know is wrong. You disagree but your willpower is overtaking by this voice, and you do what it tells you to do. At night and in your sleep, you scream you punch you fight. You may even unknowingly stand and walk. Sometimes, doctors underwrite this type of behavior to early Alzheimer’s, but studies continue to investigate the causes and the results. Moreover, the outcome of following internal voice instructions can turn out to be bad. However, there are some suggestions that can be made that may identify people or family members who have voices speaking to them. One suggestion for the family and friends is to listen and act because some people will tell their friends and family that they hear voices. These people may also tell their friends and families that the voices want him or her to commit heinous crimes or cause self-destruction. Unfortunately, there are some family members who hear this type of talk and don’t take it serious. They ignore it and consider that their friend or family member is by all terms “cuckoo.†When your family or friend come to you in seclusion and tell you that they are hearing voices, take the time to listen. Most importantly, you should let them finish talking. Then, make a friendly suggestion to take them to the doctor and that you will go along with them. Sometimes these people will not listen to you and consider that you think they are “cuckoo.†If this is the case, try to calm them down and assure them that you believe what they are saying. Let them know that you care. Let them go on with their business but notify 911. Give the operator every detail that you possibly can and advised him or her that your friend or family is a loving and caring person who may be suffering from some type of mental disruption. By taking this action, you are helping them, and you are helping other people who may be potential targets from the voices that this friend or family member is hearing. Do not hesitate because to do so may be costly for many people who could be directly and indirectly involved. This statement is situational awareness for the public. We can see storms; we can feel earthquakes, we can see and smell the smoke from a raging wildland fire, and sometimes, we can see an approaching flood. However, we cannot see or hear what’s going on inside the human mind. Look up, look around, act by reporting anything out of the ordinary.
