The initiative taken by the American Heart Association to push for mandatory CPR training in schools has now also been accepted by the West Virginian Government as the Governor Earl Ray Tomblin signed the "CPR in Schools" bill on Wednesday 11th March, 2015 at the state capitol. West Virginia has become the 21st state to pass this bill which makes CPR training compulsory for all the students graduating from West Virginia High Schools. The bill was signed by the Governor in a special bill signing event at the state capitol alongside the board members and staff of the American Heart Association and CPR Heartsaver recipient Caleb Tisdale. Moreover, another bill called the "Shared Use" bill was also signed by the Governor to allow communities and schools to work together and to open the schools after hours for community members to use for different recreational activities including workout training and exercise. Caleb Tisdale, who was also present at the event was awarded with the AHA's HeartSaver Hero Award for his timely use of CPR for saving the life of a teenager who was struck by lightning. Caleb Tisdale expressed his views that, "This allows getting people trained so we the potential through this bill to save countless lives of West Virginians in the future." Thus, the "CPR in Schools" bill will let more and more people to get themselves trained in CPR so that they can save someone's life in an emergency situation.
